The removal of an acoustic-magnetic (AM) security tag requires a specific detacher tool.
This detacher contains powerful magnets designed to generate a magnetic
field strong enough to alter the magnetic force distribution of the
permanent magnet inside the tag. This action neutralizes the force
holding the locking mechanism (usually a spring-loaded ball bearing
system) in place, thereby releasing the lock.
To
remove the tag, align the tag's protruding pin head precisely with the
corresponding groove or slot on the detacher tool, ensuring full and
firm contact. The powerful magnetic field from the detacher will
instantly counteract the internal magnetic lock. With a gentle pull, the
main tag body and the pin can then be easily separated.
It
is important to note that these tags are difficult to remove without
the proper specialized tool. Attempting forceful or unauthorized removal
(e.g., with pliers or by cutting) can easily damage the merchandise.
For clothing items, the fabric is particularly susceptible to snags,
tears, or holes from such attempts. Therefore, removal should only be performed by authorized staff
using the correct, matched detacher tool to ensure the security tag is
properly deactivated and the merchandise remains undamaged.
